Design Your Best Life
The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The
optimist sees the opportunity in every difficult.
~Winston Churchill
Hello,
Season’s Greetings! This time of year brings joy to many and also allows us to reflect on this past
year. For many of us this past year has brought about many changes. 2009 has proved to be a
tough year on all but some of us are pushing through and concentrating on the opportunities
versus the difficulties. However, some of us are still focused on the negative aspects preventing
us from moving forward.
Optimism vs. Pessimism is the way I look at it. Are you optimistic when looking at what the New
Year is going to bring or do you tend to be more of a pessimist?
If you are an optimist you probably:
• See the glass half full rather than half empty
• Believe your situation is temporary
• Imagine your future to be full of opportunities
• Take needed risks in order to bring about positive change
• Tend to portray a winning attitude
• See the good in things
If you are a pessimist you most likely:
• See the glass half empty
• Believe your situation is permanent
• Can’t see much past your current situation and dwells on the past
• Fail to take risks for the sake of being comfortable
• Find possible obstacles first
• Expect bad things to happen
The truth of the matter is we are all probably a little of both at certain times. But what do you find
yourself drawn to? Do you tend to look at things more in a positive light or dwell on the negative? If
you feel you are more of a pessimist or tend to portray a pessimistic attitude at times read below
for some tips on how you can bring more happiness into your life.
1.Focus on the successes and minimize the failures. Congratulate yourself when something goes
right! If something goes wrong don’t dwell on it-treat is as an isolated incident.
2.Expect the best. Although it can be difficult to focus only on the good make a concerted effort to
keep good thoughts in your mind. Challenge your thought patterns. You deserve only great things
so expect it!
3. Take note of the success you had in your life. It’s so easy to stay with the negative event or
circumstance but remind yourself that you have had more successes in your life than failures.
Think about your next potential success. You will come out on top!
4. Surround yourself with positive people and things. Take inventory of your life. Are you surrounded
with people or things that bring you down and suck the positive feelings out of you? If so get rid of
them and only be around those who make you feel good and support and encourage you!
5. Is your schedule overloaded? In today’s busy world we tend to over extend ourselves and load
our schedules with unnecessary tasks. Too much to do with too little time makes us feel depleted
creating a pessimistic attitude. Cut out the unnecessary stuff and give time to only top priority
items. This can leave time to help you focus on being optimistic.
Being optimistic lets you achieve more and makes you happier. Being around cheerful people
makes you feel good therefore being optimistic will only attract more positive people into your life.
Opportunities you never knew existed occur when you are optimistic. Life’s too short to focus on
the negative…keep your mind open and expect only great things to happen!!
