“Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is
what makes life meaningful”. -Joshua J. Marine

I found this quote interesting and it made me think more about challenges. We all
encounter them at some point and time in our lives and for some of us challenges
are an everyday occurrence (especially if you’re like me and you have young kids at
home ). But the most important piece about challenges is overcoming them.
It is not easy overcoming challenges and for some of us it takes a long time before
we have enough strength to take these challenges head on. When we are first
encountered with challenges our first reaction is “why.” Why is this happening to me?
Why is this happening today out of all days? Why, why, why…….Personally, I know
this is my first reaction before logically thinking through the situation and coming up
with a different perspective. Sometimes I even blame others rather than look inside
myself for the answers.

When we resist our challenges, life sends us various warning signs such as:
becoming ill, unable to be happy, financial problems, emotional pain, relationship
struggles, accidents etc. These signs can serve as warning signals to help us pay
more attention and get us back on track.

So how do we overcome our challenges?

•        First and foremost, focus on your strengths rather than let challenges
consume you. In order to defeat challenges it is important to step back, calm down
and breathe.

•        Change your thoughts and think positive. Imagine these challenges happening
to a friend or a loved one. What would you say to them to help them overcome their
challenges?

•        Accept what you cannot change and try to find the lesson in the challenge.
Hard times help us grow and through personal growth we can achieve our goals.

•        Try new solutions. If the old ways are not working try something new and
different. What’s the saying: Insanity is “doing the same thing over and over and
expecting different results.” Well if you want different results do things in a different
way.

•        Know when to get help. Challenges are overwhelming and at times all of us
need help. Whether it is from friends or seeking professional help the most important
thing is having someone on our side to help us through the tough times-we can’t
always do it by ourselves.

What I have learned about challenges is that it takes determination and persistence
to overcome them but once we open ourselves up rather than resist challenges we
can continue to move forward and achieve our goals. It may take changing our
course a number of times before we become successful but the simple fact that we
are more aware and willing to take these challenges head on is what will get us
through.

Take care and remember you can overcome any challenge if you put your mind to it!
